Flexibility

Posted on

I’m a fan of lists, especially to-do lists.  I like to have a plan of things I’m going to accomplish for the day, and I really like marking each item off once it’s done.

My plan got derailed rather early today when Stephan suggested I remove the doors from the kitchen cabinets.  We recently refinished the counter tops, and our next plan is to work on the cabinets.  My parents are coming later this week to help with that, so it makes sense that I do what I can ahead of time.  So instead of dusting as I had planned to do, I spent the morning with a screw gun, removing the doors from the boxes and the hardware from the doors.

(Sometimes it helps to hold the door on with your foot while you take the screws out.)

It’s when you get really up close and personal with your cabinets that you realize that maybe you’re not the best housekeeper.

SONY DSCEw.

Now another exercise in flexibility comes: Cooking with the kitchen a mess.

SONY DSCOf course, I will move all the doors out of the kitchen — either to the dining room or more likely the garage, but still.

SONY DSCI’m hoping we can get this project finished in a week or less.

And then I can get back to my regularly scheduled to-do list.

About Karen Koch

I like the old-fashioned lifestyle. All this new-fangled stuff baffles me sometimes. I cherish living out in the country, raising chickens and rabbits, planting fruit trees, and enjoying a slow life filled with beautiful words and ideas. I don't always achieve a slow life. I teach middle school English and manage a little burgeoning farm with my husband, and somewhere in the midst of that, I try to find time for writing, running, knitting, reading, and playing the ukulele. And sometimes, I actually succeed.
