Garden 2013

Posted on

Some things Stephan planted in the community garden on Saturday:

kale, four kinds of beets, four kinds of green beans, lettuce, spinach, yellow squash, butternut squash, pumpkins, Swiss chard, zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, and jalapenos

Seeds we have ready to plant in our home garden:

lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, peas

Plants we bought at the farmers’ market that we will plant once the danger of frost is past (because who thought it would frost this late in May?)

a whole flat of tomatoes, three rhubarb plants

We also plan to expand our strawberry patch.

The strawberries are blooming and the blueberry bushes are greening out.  The raspberry bush is looking pretty good so far, too.

I’m ready for some good, fresh, local eating.

About Karen Koch

I like the old-fashioned lifestyle. All this new-fangled stuff baffles me sometimes. I cherish living out in the country, raising chickens and rabbits, planting fruit trees, and enjoying a slow life filled with beautiful words and ideas. I don't always achieve a slow life. I teach middle school English and manage a little burgeoning farm with my husband, and somewhere in the midst of that, I try to find time for writing, running, knitting, reading, and playing the ukulele. And sometimes, I actually succeed.
