Will She or Won’t She?

A few weeks ago, we bred our rabbits again.  Stephan said Licorice didn’t complain as much this time as she did last time; she seemed more receptive to Bear.  So perhaps this time there will be babies.

Saturday morning I put the nest box in her cage.  Assuming a 28 day gestation period, she should give birth on Thursday, November 15, and you’re supposed to put the nest box in the cage a few days before so the doe can get ready.  When I checked on the rabbits later in the day, Licorice was inside the nest box.  I don’t remember seeing her get inside it last time we tried to breed her.  In fact, last time, she seemed irked by it being in there with her.  She kept pushing it around the cage.

So, we’ll see.  If there are no babies, we’ll be eating rabbit for Thanksgiving dinner.

About Karen Koch

I like the old-fashioned lifestyle. All this new-fangled stuff baffles me sometimes. I cherish living out in the country, raising chickens and rabbits, planting fruit trees, and enjoying a slow life filled with beautiful words and ideas. I don't always achieve a slow life. I teach middle school English and manage a little burgeoning farm with my husband, and somewhere in the midst of that, I try to find time for writing, running, knitting, reading, and playing the ukulele. And sometimes, I actually succeed.
