Unexpected Blessing

Posted on

Stephan and I have been praying a lot lately about this summer and our finances.  Since neither of us has certain income for the next couple of months, we’ve been praying God will help us to make ends meet.  We would like to avoid dipping into our savings, but of course we will if we have to.

We try to go away every year — sometimes farther than others — for our anniversary.  We had our trip planned… and then the check engine light came on in my car.  We knew we’d probably need to get it checked out before our trip, which was coming up the very next week.  I prayed that it would be something little and insignificant.  Like a loose connection, and the mechanic would just have to plug something back in.  I prayed that God would fix the car.

And then… the check engine light went off.

I’m keeping an eye on it, and if it goes on again, we’ll take it in.  But for now, I’m rejoicing that God healed my car!

We’ve had some mix-ups with our auto insurance bill over the past couple of months.  Stephan used to get the bill in his email, but since he removed one truck from the policy and added another, the emails have not come.  In April, he contacted the agent who sent him the bill.  But then he still didn’t get the May bill, so he called again.  He found out that because it was the end of the policy term, there is no bill for May!  Amazing!  That’s a bill we were planning to have to pay that now we don’t have to pay.

Sometimes God answers prayers in little, unexpected ways.  It makes me smile.

About Karen Koch

I like the old-fashioned lifestyle. All this new-fangled stuff baffles me sometimes. I cherish living out in the country, raising chickens and rabbits, planting fruit trees, and enjoying a slow life filled with beautiful words and ideas. I don't always achieve a slow life. I teach middle school English and manage a little burgeoning farm with my husband, and somewhere in the midst of that, I try to find time for writing, running, knitting, reading, and playing the ukulele. And sometimes, I actually succeed.

  1. I love how God does that 🙂

I remember when we were both out of work and had some pretty steep medical bills. I never win anything, but out of the blue I got a call that we’d won $50 worth of meat! This was back in ’83 and that was a HUGE amount. I hadn’t entered a contest, but because we bought our meat at a little independent meat market and paid with a check, our names got entered into a monthly drawing. I stretched that meat out for three months 🙂 It was such a blessing to be able to spend less on groceries.

I think you’ll be seeing God’s hand in lots of ways over the next few months!
