Herbs and Flowers

In past years, we’ve gotten basil plants, and by now we would be enjoying basil on our sandwiches and in our meals.  But this year, we started the basil from seed.  It’s taking longer to be ready than I would like.  I love basil!  But it’s getting there.

The cilantro is slowly growing as well.  I’m in a hurry for it, too!

I don’t think these are edible, but our Tiger Lilies have bloomed.  I like the color they add to the front yard.

And we’ve got some Little Marvel peas growing in the back yard.  We were so surprised at the beautiful flowers!

I like the old-fashioned lifestyle. All this new-fangled stuff baffles me sometimes. I cherish living out in the country, raising chickens and rabbits, planting fruit trees, and enjoying a slow life filled with beautiful words and ideas. I don't always achieve a slow life. I teach middle school English and manage a little burgeoning farm with my husband, and somewhere in the midst of that, I try to find time for writing, running, knitting, reading, and playing the ukulele. And sometimes, I actually succeed.
